The Tara Project

Last week we had a visit from an organisation called Emaus. They gave us a speech about Fair Trade and they told us what was their objective with this project.
The next time they came, they told us we were going to do a video-conference with the head of an organisation in India called Tara. To make the most of the video-conference we suggested some questions that would be interesting to know such as, what type of support did poor people get with this project and so on.They also showed us a video which explained how it works, some of the benefits they get and some examples. One of them was a intouchable (People belonging to a group of very low social status in India). She had got a loan to open a second hand shoe shop, she was very thankful for that.
Last time we met the people from Emaus was when we did the video-conference with the daughter of the fundator of Tara. We were able to ask her things about India as well as hearing a different accent of what we are used to listening. We took some notes about what she told us which we will be posting in the near future.

What is Tara ? It is a community of energetic, committed change makers. Community is central to all that they do – from helping chronically poor communities break the cycle of poverty to finding ways to engage individuals in a global community. We believe in a community of equals, working together to find innovative solutions for community-owned.
